Contract Consultants

Capacitas believes that the customers of performance and capacity expertise in the UK would be better served by using contract resources on a project basis, rather than fixed-length contracts of multiples of 6 months. The majority of customer requirements are to cover project work rather than business-as-usual activities; although once a contractor is recruited they often become one of the standard team resources. We do not believe that this is a cost effective use of contract staff, nor is it advantageous for top calibre contract consultants, as they face many career affecting issues with long-term contracts. As such we have launched a Flexible Analyst Service. This is aimed at encouraging customers to refine their usage of contract performance and capacity consultants, either focussing them on specific projects drawn down against a retainer style contract, or tasking them to deliver specific deliverables bundled together into a single service offering.

The benefits for the customer are that:

  • They only pay for the time that they actually need, albeit at a higher daily rate, therefore making a more cost-effective investment overall
  • They buy a skilled service from Capacitas, provided via a service level agreement, making delivery guaranteed
  • They are not tied to a single contractor, so can buy a cross-match of skills as required and are covered for absences of individual consultants
The benefits for the contract consultant are that:
  • They can build up a portfolio of contracts within the Flexible Analyst to provide a consistent revenue
  • They are not eligible for IR35 registration or similar, as they are providing genuine consultancy services and are not bound to a single 'employer'
  • They receive higher daily rates than typical 6-monthly contracts
  • They undertake more interesting work on a project or deliverable basis
In this respect please note that Capacitas does not provide a typical recruitment agency service, in that we only focus on certain aspects of the application development lifecycle; architecture assurance, systems performance and capacity management; although delivered via many products or services. Most modern large enterprises insist on a single or small number of suppliers of recruitment services. As such our focus does not warrant Capacitas becoming a 1st tier recruitment agency. However, our technical focus does enable us to offer a unique 2nd tier supplier service. We aim to become a supplier of performance and capacity contract staff to the majority of 1st tier recruitment agencies in the UK.
